Breaking:Kebs MD Charles Ongwae released on Sh15 million bond

Kebs Managing Director Charles Ongwae and several other people have been released on bond following charges of attempted murder and abuse of office.
Ongwae and six other people were charged on Monday with allegedly allowing substandard fertiliser into the country.
In the first count of attempted murder, they were freed on Sh10 million bond with sureties of Sh3 million each and asked to deposit Sh2 million cash bail each.
In the second count of conspiracy to commit fraud, the accused were granted release on Sh5 million bond with a surety of the same amount and asked to deposit Sh3 million cash bail.
In his ruling, Senior Principal Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyiot noted: "Even though the offences are serious, they are bailable."
He directed the accused to deposit their passports in court and see the investigating officer once a week.

Among those charged are Director of Quality Assurance Eric Cheshire Kiprono, Inspection Manager Peter Kinyanjui and Coast Regional Director Martin Nyakiamo.
The group allegedly committed the offences between November 13, 2017 and June 7.
They court heard that with intent to unlawfully cause the deaths of people in Narok and Eldoret, they released to the OCP(K) 5.8 million kilogrammes of substandard compound fertiliser which contained mercury that endangers human life.
